Montreal - Friday, September 3, 2021

Some students seeking exemptions from regular classroom sessions for medical reasons due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic will have an online learning option available soon, offered by LEARN Quebec, the SMÀ¦°ó has announced

This project will be part of a collaboration among six English boards, including the SMÀ¦°ó, with LEARN helping with the coordination and support of the online classes. LEARN (Leading English Education and Resource Network) is a non-profit educational organization with a mandate to serve the English-speaking community of Quebec. LEARN has vast experience  in this area. Its Virtual Campus, offering online classes for students across the province, as well as personalized tutorials, began well before the pandemic.

The SMÀ¦°ó recently conducted a survey among parents whose children attended a Virtual Learning model last year. Those who meet the necessary criteria for medical exemptions will be advised about this new program in the coming days. A precise start date has not been determined yet.

SMÀ¦°ó Chair Joe Ortona lauded this multi-board initiative approach, emphasizing how it will ensure a more comprehensive and complete service to the entire community. SMÀ¦°ó Director General Nicholas Katalifos expressed his thanks to Michael Canuel and his team at LEARN Quebec for agreeing to spearhead this important program
